Ground systems team opens Huntsville integration hall

A new vehicle integration hall in Huntsville gives our Ground Systems team room to prepare two vehicles in parallel and shortens the path from factory to pad.

Our Ground Systems team has opened a new vehicle integration hall in Huntsville. The facility gives us space to process two launch vehicles in parallel, and it brings integration, checkout, and payload interface work under one roof.

Until now, vehicles moved between three separate buildings on their way to the pad. Each move meant another round of handling, another set of inspections, and another chance for a schedule to slip. The new hall removes most of those steps.

Built for parallel work

The hall is long enough to lay out two complete vehicles side by side, with dedicated work platforms and clean zones for each. Overhead cranes are rated for the heaviest stages we build today, with margin for the vehicles still on the drawing board.

Each bay has its own power, data, and ground support connections, so teams can run full electrical checkouts without waiting for shared equipment. Payload teams get a separate controlled area for interface testing before their spacecraft ever meets the vehicle.

What it changes for launch cadence

Integration has been one of the tightest steps in our schedule. With two bays working at the same time, one vehicle can be in final checkout while the next is being stacked. That overlap is what lets us support a higher launch rate without asking teams to work faster or cut corners.

It also changes how our customers work with us. Payload teams can visit, watch their hardware being integrated, and sign off on interfaces in the same building where the work happens.

The team behind it

The hall was designed by the people who will work in it. Technicians, test engineers, and safety staff spent months walking through mockups and marking up layouts before construction began. Small decisions, like where tool storage sits relative to each work platform, came straight from that process.

Ground Systems supports every mission from the launch pad to the operations center. The Huntsville hall is the newest piece of that chain, and the first vehicle is already in the building.
